“... the integration of an almost prayerful melodicism suggestive of Charles Lloyd with a more forward-thrusting, free-wheeling improvisational approach that echoes Coltrane, Davis, Shorter, and Coleman.” - Jazz Police
"... a versatile sound that incorporates everything from modern groove to world jazz." - MOJA Radio
"Fantauzzo infuses a really nice jazzy style... really hip!" - KFAI FM
Bobb Fantauzzo has developed a unique sound playing Native American style flutes. His music has been described as “evocative”, “innovative”, “primal sophistication”, “engaging”, and “hip”. It is contemporary jazz voiced through the ancient zen-like tonalities of world flutes. It is, what he calls, JazZen. His recordings have received airplay on national and international jazz radio stations as well as on the Discovery Channel.
His versatility has afforded him the opportunity to perform with noted musicians in a wide range of genres; from R. Carlos Nakai to Delfeayo Marsallis to the Violent Femmes.
Ensembles under his direction have performed at a variety of festivals and conventions, including the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Mid West Music Festival, International Native American Flute Association Convention, World Flute Society Convention, and Social Theory, Politics, and the Arts International Convention.
He has composed and recorded for stage productions at The Pillsbury House Theater, The History Theater and The Guthrie Theater and has improvised with both poets and dancers, including The Eclectic Edge Dance Ensemble and Zorango Flamenco.
Supported by KBEM Jazz88 FM, he has received Minnesota Legacy Amendment Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund grants for his “A Weaving of Traditions” and "Music Without Borders" concerts.
